Port Hardy RCMP are crediting a security guard with helping to track down a suspect in a pair of smash-and-grab style thefts.
Police said Harry Farmer of Aries Security was making his rounds on Saturday night when he saw a man holding items fleeing from a store. The store’s window had been broken. A similar burglary had been reported about an hour earlier.
Farmer gave chase until police arrived to take over. They found the man in some bushes, along with allegedly stolen property.
Michael Joseph is facing charges including break, enter and theft, disguise with intent and possession of drugs.
The investigation is ongoing.
