Pedestrian hit by SUV on Gorge Road West, suffers life-threatening injuries

A pedestrian has life-threatening injuries after being struck by an SUV on a sidewalk on Gorge Road West on Wednesday morning.

A pedestrian has life-threatening injuries after being struck by an SUV on a sidewalk on Gorge Road West on Wednesday morning.

A 2003 Chevrolet Suburban was heading east on Gorge Road West, near Donald and Earl Grey streets, when it mounted the sidewalk, struck a 31-year-old man and continued into a nearby park. The SUV hit a tree and came to rest in the bushes.

Saanich police, fire and B.C. Ambulance paramedics arrived about 11:30 a.m.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 25-year-old woman driving the SUV was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A Saanich police crash analyst team was on scene, trying to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
