A group of passersby helped Victoria police arrest a motorist who drove into parked cars and tried to flee in Vic West Saturday night.
Police went to Wilson Street and Tyee Road around 6:40 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a vehicle hitting parked cars.
“Police determined that the truck was travelling north on Tyee and made a left turn on Wilson. At this time, the vehicle went out of control,” said Const. Matt Rutherford.
The driver tried to flee but was stopped by a group of people nearby. He was arrested when police arrived soon after.
Rutherford said the 31-year-old man was to appear at a telebail hearing Sunday.
Police are recommending charges of impaired driving, fleeing the accident scene, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, violating a probation order and an undertaking, as well as two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
