Organic farmer and longtime Saanich resident Nathalie Chambers has announced she plans to run in the byelection.

No date has been set, but one person has already announced plans to run in the byelection to replace Saanich councillor Vic Derman, who died last month.

Organic farmer and longtime Saanich resident Nathalie Chambers has announced she will stand to take Derman’s place.

“I believe Vic Derman’s legacy of environmental advocacy and public service need to be protected,” Chambers said in a statement.

Derman died in his sleep unexpectedly on March 17 at the age of 72.

He was first elected to Saanich council in 2002.

Kelsie McLeod, Saanich spokeswoman, said no date has been set for a byelection to fill the vacancy.

Whoever wins the byelection will have a seat until the next municipal election in October 2018.
