The public is invited to bring chairs and blankets to see Shrek, starting at 9:30 p.m.

Plans call for a series of screenings of both modern and classic films throughout the summer. The rest of the schedule is being developed, a Greater Victoria Harbour Authority official said.

Once complete, details will be posted on the authority’s website, gvha.ca. The first screening will be funded by the authority, which is working in with the Victoria Film Festival, victoriafilmfestival.com.

CarShare grows in Nanaimo

Rising demand has prompted the Nanaimo CarShare Co-Op to add a third vehicle to its fleet and a new hub at Country Club Centre using a grant from Coastal Community Credit Union to finance the expansion.

The new vehicle is a 2004 Toyota Echo sedan. Nanaimo CarShare president John Peirce said the new hub — added to existing hubs near Port Place Mall and the Prideaux Transit Exchange — ticks a lot of boxes.

“In choosing a hub location, we look for high population density, excellent transit service, a mix of residences and businesses in the neighbourhood, and a supportive hub host and partner.”

Nanaimo CarShare launched in April 2011 with a single vehicle, adding a second car and hub 15 months later.
