Oak Bay police are still looking for suspects following of string of robberies in Oak Bay.

“We’re following up with various leads and our detectives are in touch with other detectives in Greater Victoria,” Sgt. Chris Goudie said Wednesday afternoon.

The first robbery took place Dec. 12 at Tomley’s Market on Foul Bay Road. A man approached the cashier, handed her an empty plastic bag and told her to fill it. He fled empty-handed when the cashier called out to her co-worker, shooting pepper spray on his way out.

The second robbery occurred Dec. 17 at the Oak Bay Gold Silver and Coin Shop at 2029 Oak Bay Ave. A man walked into the store, showed the owner a weapon and left with cash.

The third occurred Saturday at Casey’s Market at St. Patrick Street and Central Avenue. A man who used bear spray or pepper spray escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The man in both the first and third robberies is described as white, about five-foot-nine, 190 pounds and between 45 and 55. The man in the second robbery is described as 35 to 40 years old, five-foot-eight to five-foot-nine and 175 to 180 pounds. He was clean-shaven with a round face and walked with a slight limp.

Goudie said it’s possible one man committed more than one of the robberies.

“Basically at this point, all we have is a male in dark clothing,” he said. “They could be three different males. It could all be the same male.”

He asked store owners to remain vigilant.

“If someone comes into your store with a mask, dial 9-1-1 and we’ll be there,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Oak Bay police at 250-592-2424. Anonymous reports can be made by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
