The Sooke school district has issued a progress report on its two new West Shore high schools, saying both the $40.8-million Royal Bay Secondary and the $53.9-million replacement Belmont Secondary are on time and on budget.

Both are due to open in September 2015.

The Sooke district report said the structure of Royal Bay Secondary, with room for 800 students, is 98 per cent complete. Finishing work such as drywall, flooring and cabinets is scheduled to start at the end of September. The Colwood school will have a rooftop basketball court, a teaching kitchen and a 350-seat theatre.

The new Belmont, which will replace the aging facility on Jacklin Road, is 80 per cent structurally complete and the roof should be finished in October. Finishing work will start in the new year.

Features of the school, being built on the site of the former Glen Lake Elementary in Langford, include a gymnasium that can be divided into two full-sized playing courts and a theatre with seating for 300.

The school will have a 1200-student capacity.
