Nanaimo RCMP are releasing video surveillance footage in hopes of nabbing a man who carried out two armed robberies on Aug. 13.

In the first robbery, a man wearing a wig and wielding a large knife walked into the 7-Eleven on Terminal Avenue about 2:40 a.m. and demanded cash from the clerk, said Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien.

The robber took the cash, then fled on foot.

The man was wearing a red Hurley T-shirt, baggy grey sweatpants and grey or black shoes with white laces.

About 10:50 that night, a man wearing a wig and brandishing a knife walked into the Northfield Esso and ordered the cashier to hand over cash. He fled on foot.

The robber wore a dark coloured ball cap, a light grey hoodie and dark pants.

“We believe the same person is responsible for both incidents,” O’Brien said.

“Hopefully, these pictures will assist the community in identifying this individual or provide information on the knife used.”

Nanaimo RCMP ask anyone with information on the robberies to call them at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
