Nanaimo RCMP are looking for the person who robbed a liquor store disguised in a Halloween mask and armed with a machete.

Donning a Scream mask and brandishing a weapon, the robber entered the Harewood Liquor Store located at 508 Eighth St. just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, said Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien. The person demanded cash and then took off on foot. The clerk was not injured.

The robber was last seen running northbound through the parking lot toward Howard Avenue. RCMP officers and a canine unit arrived on scene within minutes but were unable to locate anyone.

The crime is similar to an armed robbery at the same liquor store on Oct. 1 in which the robber was wearing a similar mask. The person behind the October robbery has not been caught.

“Officers are certainly looking at the possibility the same person may be responsible for both occurrences given the mask worn and other physical features of the suspect,” O’Brien said.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or anonymously though Crime Stoppers at nanaimocrimestoppers.com or 1-800-222-8477.
