A 25-year-old man who escaped from the Nanaimo RCMP detachment on Tuesday afternoon remains on the loose.

“He’s still on the lam, enjoying his Christmas Day, but we’re hunting,” said Staff Sgt. Ken Brissard.

Alexander Ray Trinkwon was arrested Tuesday in connection with a string of break-ins and thefts in Nanaimo and scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. He escaped when the investigator left the interview room for about a minute, RCMP said.

Trinkwon was last seen wearing blue jeans, a T-shirt and no shoes.

A significant number of police officers searched for the man, as well as a police dog. The dog tracked the man to the Bowen Road and Buttertubs Marsh area before losing his scent.

“Any locations that he’s been known to frequent, we continue to keep an eye on those,” Brissard said.

Trinkwon faces charges of stolen property, break and enter, and possession of break-and-enter tools. He is also facing an additional charge of escaping lawful custody.

Nanaimo RCMP ask anyone with information to contact them at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
