A 30 year-old Nanaimo man has been arrested and is suspected of exposing himself twice to girls at a shopping mall.

Nanaimo RCMP arrested the man Tuesday at Woodgrove Centre mall at 3 p.m. after an off-duty police officer recognized his vehicle from victims’ descriptions.

He was arrested for indecent exposure, and breach of probation related to a 2013 conviction.

On Sept. 22, a man exposed himself to a 12-year-old girl, according to Nanaimo RCMP. On Sept. 26, a man fitting the same description exposed himself to 17- and 18-year-old girls, said Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien.

Both incidents occurred at Woodgrove Centre and a composite sketch of the man was released. Victims told police the man drove a black SUV with Red Dragon apparel logos on the side.

When the vehicle was spotted at the mall on Tuesday, police were called in and observed the man acting suspiciously, O’Brien said.

After being arrested, it was discovered the suspect has a 2013 conviction in Nanaimo for attempted Internet luring of a youth, O’Brien said.

He served 90 days in jail and was released on conditions he not have contact with anyone 18 or younger. For that reason, he was also arrested for breach of probation.

The man’s apartment will be searched today, O’Brien said. He was also scheduled to appear in court today.

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspect or his truck to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
