Emergency crews raced to Terminal Avenue, about 10 metres below the overpass, at approximately 10 p.m. Traffic on the road was diverted.
The Nanaimo RCMP handed off the investigation to the B.C. Coroners office after determining there was no foul play.
“It was a middle-aged guy in his 40s who did somehow end up off that bridge,” said Barbara McLintock of the B.C. Coroners office. “The investigation is still very preliminary, to try and determine whether this is a fall or unfortunate jumper and to get the rest of it together.”
