Nanaimo RCMP are looking for witnesses after a cyclist was injured during a hit-and-run last weekend.

Pedestrians came upon an injured cyclist just before 3 a.m. on Nov. 26, in the area of Doric Avenue and Bowen Road, said Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien.

The pedestrians called 911, and B.C. Ambulance paramedics and police attended the scene.

The 53-year-old cyclist was unable to tell investigators what happened.

Officers examined the scene and the damaged bicycle and determined a car likely struck the rear of the bike, O’Brien said.

As of Wednesday, the cyclist remained in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with a broken scapula and lacerations. He has little memory of the accident and has been unable to assist with the investigation, O’Brien said.

Police ask anyone with information on the crash to call them at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
