Const. Jong Kim saw the money — $50 and $100 bills totalling a few thousand dollars — as he walked through a parking lot in Port Hardy. He gathered it up before the wind could blow it away and took it to the RCMP detachment for safekeeping.

No reports of lost money were received for the next few weeks, but inquiries around the community eventually led police to a business that had had some money go missing. The owner had decided not to report the loss, figuring the bills were gone forever, and was thrilled to get them back.

Staff Sgt. Wes Olsen said efforts to find the owner were helped by Port Hardy being a small, close-knit community.
