The woman suffered extensive bruising and was treated in hospital and released, Nanaimo RCMP said. She was alone in the car, which was demolished in the collision.
The incident happened about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the crossing at Waddington Road and Highway 19A. A southbound train going about 40 km/h hit the car, pushing it about 35 metres before coming to a stop.
The crossing, which has bells but not a crossing arm, was operating properly at the time, police said.
