Two men out for a walk spotted the body of a man in the water at Stone’s Marina on Stewart Avenue about 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Paramedics, fire crews and the RCMP responded. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“While the investigation is in the preliminary stages, his death does not appear suspicious,” said Const. Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

“Investigators are attempting to determine how the deceased entered the water and establish a timeline of his movements prior to the discovery of his body.”

The Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating.

RCMP will not release the man’s name until his next of kin have been notified.
