Man’s body found in water off Lasqueti Island

Police received a report of a body in the water about 7:30 p.m.

The man was wearing a child’s life-jacket, the Victoria Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre said. No vessel was found.

The man, who is thought to be in his mid-20s, has shoulder-length, dark brown, wavy hair and olive skin and is about six feet tall with an athletic build. He was wearing a leather necklace with two shells and a red and black bead.

Police checks of missing persons files have not located anyone matching this description.

Detectives and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating.
