A man has been pulled from the water after he jumped overboard from a B.C. Ferries vessel southeast of Bowen Island.

When the man was rescued, he was unconscious and non-responsive, said Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall. Crew on the rescue boat performed CPR and the man was transferred to a Vancouver police boat, she added.

Marshall did not know the man’s age.

About 4:15 p.m., “three passengers witnessed a male jump off the lower car deck,” she said.

They alerted the crew members who stopped the vessel.

The Queen of Oak Bay was sailing between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay at the time. The Queen of Cowichan, heading in the opposite direction, also stopped to assist with the rescue.

B.C. Ferries tweeted at 5:02 p.m. that the man “has been recovered."

The rest of the Queen of Oak Bay’s sailings were cancelled to allow crew members to debrief from the traumatic incident, Marshall said.
