A 71-year-old Nanaimo man severely injured Tuesday when his motorcycle collided with a car has died from his injuries.

Saanich police said Hugh Robert Nisbet died in hospital on Saturday morning.

The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at McKenzie Avenue and Burnside Road West.

Saanich police believe the 87-year-old car driver turned left in front of the motorcycle. The car driver, who was not injured, was ticketed for failing to yield.

Saanich police had mistakenly reported Friday that the man had died. A correction was sent out Friday evening.

Sgt. Steve Eassie said there was an “error in communication” and apologized for the mistake.
