Man injured in assault with baseball bat at Nanaimo home

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating after a 52-year-old man was assaulted with a baseball bat. Const. Gary O’Brien said the assault took place just before 9 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Barclay Road.

Police were called to the residence for a report of a disturbance. When officers arrived, they found the victim bleeding from the head. The man was taken to hospital by B.C. Ambulance paramedics, O’Brien said. He received stitches and was released from hospital Wednesday morning.

A 58-year-old man was arrested at the home, held in custody overnight and charged with assault causing bodily harm. He was released Wednesday morning and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 18.

Police executed a search warrant at the house and seized several items, including a baseball bat.
