Man in custody after holdup alarm triggered at business

A man is in custody after a holdup alarm was triggered at a business on View Street, between Blanshard and Quadra streets, just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

When a 911 operator called the business, there were indications that a man was in the store, possibly attempting a robbery.

Police surrounded the building while the operator remained on the line with store staff.

Traffic in the area was halted “out of an abundance of caution,” VicPD said in a statement.

A man was taken into custody without incident after staff fled the business.
