The body of deceased man has been found in a tent in a popular Nanaimo park.

Nanaimo RCMP were on a routine foot patrol in a secluded area of Bowen park when they located a tent on Saturday morning.

“The officers checked on the person inside, and found an adult male, deceased,” said Sgt. Sheryl Armstrong.

Initial indications are that the death was not the result of foul play, police said.

Police said it is not unusual to find homeless or transient people camping in that part of the 90-acre park.

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating.

The coroner was unable to answer any questions Saturday, noting that the body had yet to be identified and that next of kin need to be notified.
