The 40-year-old Langford man facing child pornography charges has voluntarily stepped down from his role on the board of directors at the Braefoot Community Association.
Kevin James Wolski is charged with two counts of making child pornography of a person under 18 years old engaged in explicit sexual activity or for a sexual purpose and one count of communicating to lure a child.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he had been a director for the Braefoot Community Association since August 2013.
“I believe he has voluntarily stepped back from his role on the board,” said Ray Parks, a longtime director and former chairman of the board.
Parks said board members are volunteers and do not have any contact with the youth the association serves.
Parks said he was “completely surprised” to hear about the charges.
“These are serious allegations,” he said. “I guess I just have to wait and learn with everyone else.”
Wolski is a married father and an executive with two digital marketing companies. He was arrested after West Shore RCMP searched his home, which is near Crystal View Elementary.
Jim Cambridge, superintendent of the Sooke school district, said the school’s principal has had inquiries from concerned parents.
“I did contact West Shore RCMP and asked if any of our students were involved,” Cambridge said. “They told me they didn’t have reason to be concerned for kids at that school.”
Wolski appeared in Western Communities Court on Thursday and was released on $5,000 bail.
He was released on 12 conditions, including a ban on using the Internet except related to work and in the presence of another adult. He has also been ordered not to contact or be alone with a child unless he is in the presence of a pre-approved adult and not to possess or access any pornographic material.
His next court appearance is scheduled for May 14.
