Police in Nanaimo have arrested a man at the B.C. Ferries terminal in Departure Bay with almost 23 kilograms of marijuana worth an estimated $120,000.

Nanaimo RCMP arrested the 46-year-old Friday after an investigation that spanned several months. The probe focused on the movement of money and marijuana between central Vancouver Island and the Yukon, police said.

The man was released on a promise to appear in court. The RCMP are recommending charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien said investigators believe the arrest and seizure will significantly disrupt the flow of marijuana between Nanaimo and the Yukon.

Further arrests are expected, he said.
