Port Hardy RCMP are asking for the public’s help after yet another break-in at the community’s museum gift shop — bringing the total to five since April.

The latest in the string of crimes came July 7, when police were called about 2:40 a.m. to the museum on Market Street. In all cases, entry was gained by breaking a window and jewelry was taken by smashing a display case.

To date, about $4,000 worth of First Nations items has been stolen and about $1,000 in repairs has been needed.

Curator Jane Hutton said the museum’s artifacts have not been affected. She said the thefts are a concern because the Port Hardy Heritage Society relies on money raised at the gift shop to maintain and improve both the museum and the archives.

Contact Port Hardy RCMP at 250-949-6335 or Crimes Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) with any information.
