An early-morning break-in at a Langford gas station could have ties to crimes in other communities, says West Shore RCMP acting Sgt. Kathy Rochlitz.
“We believe that this heist may be connected to some others within Nanaimo and Ladysmith, given that the style of the crime appears very similar.”
The other crimes happened within approximately the last week.
Rochlitz said the Langford crime happened about 4:25 a.m. Monday at the Shell station on West Shore Parkway, near the Trans-Canada Highway. Surveillance footage showed two masked men entering the business, apparently after prying a door open.
A stand-alone automated-teller machine, an office and a cigarette cabinet were hit by the intruders.
“Taken in this theft were approximately 25 cartons of cigarettes, an undisclosed amount of cash and scratch-and-win lottery tickets in various denominations,” Rochlitz said.
A police dog was brought in but no one was found. Police are asking the public for information about any suspicious activity in the area at the time.
