Judge falls ill, bus stop stabbing murder trial adjourned

The trial for a man accused of fatally stabbing a 15-year-old boy at a Douglas Street bus stop on June 3, 2010, was adjourned Thursday after the judge fell ill.

Cory Daniel Barry’s second-degree murder trial for the death of Victoria High School student Justin Wendland began Monday in B.C. Supreme Court. Justice Brian MacKenzie was ill Thursday.

The Crown is alleging that Barry, 41, stabbed Wendland twice in the chest outside the Times Colonist building, then ran to the Victoria police station on Caledonia Avenue.

Barry has pleaded not guilty to the crime.

The trial will resume Friday.
