Human remains found by a Victoria city crew replacing a catch basin near Ogden Point were removed Thursday and will be placed in a cedar box until burial.
City staff are working with Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations to confirm the reburial location, said city spokeswoman Katie Josephson.
The remains, which belong to a male, were found in late January. Work immediately stopped at the Dallas Road and Montreal Street site.
The area was the site of an early First Nations settlement.
Remains were found in 2009 across the road from the current excavation and reburied nearby. The remains found this week will likely be buried in the same spot within the next week, said Songhees band councillor Ron Sam.
