Building a bridge across Saanich Inlet should be considered so that travellers have an alternative to the Malahat highway, Premier John Horgan told reporters in Vancouver on Friday.
“There was a report done when I was first elected, maybe a decade ago, about a bridge across the Saanich Inlet and I think that’s certainly something we should dust off and have discussions with the Indigenous communities, have discussions with the travelling public and see if that’s a possibility,” Horgan said.
The premier’s riding, Langford-Juan de Fuca, includes the Malahat.
He made his comment after a section of the Trans-Canada at Goldstream Provincial Park was completely closed for about 14 hours when a fuel truck collided with a courier van.
“The broader question of how do we make more transportation routes available in and out of [Victoria] is something that I’m very seized with and I’m going to be talking to my transportation minister when we get back to the legislature on Monday,” Horgan said.
