Premier John Horgan dropped in on Monday at the city hall of Langford, the municipality he calls home and the community he represents in the B.C. legislature.

Horgan visited to bestow honours on councillors Denise Blackwell and Winnie Sifert, who were both first first elected to Langford council in 1992, the first year of Langford’s incorporation.

Also honoured was Mayor Stew Young, who was a councillor in 1992. He was elected mayor in 1993 and has been returned ever since.

Horgan said that he moved to Langford 25 years ago, on St. Patrick’s Day, from Saanich. He now looks with amazement at the transformation in his home community.

“The town I arrived in is no longer recognizable,” said Horgan in an interview. “It’s quite remarkable.”

“It’s dynamic, it’s diverse, it has young families, it has seniors,” he said. “Langford has all the diversity you would expect in a mature community and it has happened in 25 years.”
