RCMP have released a surveillance image of the armed robber who held up a pizzeria in Sidney early Saturday morning.

The lone man, wearing a balaclava, entered the pizza place just before 1 a.m. and headed directly for the area behind the counter, said Sidney/North Saanich RCMP spokesman Cpl. Chris Manseau.

He brandished what appeared to be a handgun and told an employee to empty the till.

The robber left through the front door and fled on foot. Police, including a tracker dog, failed to locate the man during a sweep of the surrounding area.

The robber is described as male, late 20s to early 30s, with blond hair and blond eyebrows and a stocky build. The man spoke with a “smoker’s voice.”

He was wearing green camouflage pants, a black long-sleeved hoodie, dark shoes, a balaclava and gloves.

Anyone in the area of Bevan Avenue, 5th Avenue, Ocean Avenue, Oakville Avenue or the Pat Bay Highway between midnight and 2 a.m. on Saturday is asked to call Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
