A homeless man turned in $2,000 in cash found on a Langford street and police are working to find the rightful owner, West Shore RCMP said.

The cash appears to have been dropped accidentally, said West Shore RCMP spokesman Const. Alex Berube.

“Despite his current situation, the man realized the money belonged to someone out there and turned it in because he felt it was the right thing to do,” Berube said. “This is an incredible display of honesty and selflessness.”

Berube did not release details about when the money was found, which street or what kind of package it was in to make sure anyone claiming the money can answer those key questions.

If the rightful owner doesn’t claim the funds within 90 days, the homeless man, who is in his 60s, will get the money.
