Nanaimo RCMP have determined the disappearance of a highly trained German shepherd from a Nanaimo home over the weekend was a theft.

Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said the theft of the two-year-old German shepherd, called Jaeger, is believed to have occurred on or about July 30, from a residence on Alger Road in Lantzville.

Jaeger is not known to leave the owners’ property unless on a leash, O’Brien said.

The police investigation has determined the dog was taken without consent from the property. Thefts of dogs are not unusual, but they are not common, either, O’Brien said.

Jaeger is black and tan and his right ear is tattooed with RTY20X.

Nanaimo RCMP ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jaeger to contact Const. Mike Penton at 250-754-2345. To share information without giving your name, contact Crime Stoppers at nanaimocrimestoppers.com or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
