Former Times Colonist reporter nominated for National Newspaper Award

Reporter Amy Smart and her Times Colonist articles on assisted dying and the barriers that still exist have been nominated for a National Newspaper Award.

Smart worked for the Times Colonist when the stories appeared in January, April and June 2017. She now works for The Canadian Press in Vancouver.

Her stories were selected in the category of local reporting. They documented personal stories of people who chose to die with the assistance of a doctor. They also examined the politics of hospitals and hospices where assisted dying is often not available.

Winners will be announced on May 4.
