The Shishalh First Nation in Sechelt announced Friday morning that Tracy Samra, Nanaimo’s chief administrative officer, will not be working for the band.

No further information was provided by Coun. Keith Julius in an email, and Samra could not immediately be reached.

The band announced on its website last week that it had hired Samra as chief administrative officer for the First Nation.

Nanaimo Mayor Bill McKay said Samra has not submitted a letter of resignation to the city.

She has been on leave from her job with the city since Feb. 1.

McKay would not comment on the leave. “We must respect the privacy of our employees.”

Victor Mema, the city’s financial officer, is acting chief administrative officer.

Samra’s four-year contract runs until March 2020.
