About 25 firefighters from Oak Bay, Victoria and Saanich fought a stubborn house fire on the edge of the Victoria Golf Club in south Oak Bay on Saturday.

Don Roskelley, Oak Bay’s assistant fire chief, said the blaze broke out about 2 p.m. at a home in the 600 block of Beach Drive.

“They knocked down the initial fire very quickly, but it was a question of overhauling it and getting all the hot spots out,” he said.

No one was home and there’s no estimate of damage at this time, Roskelley said. An investigator was at the scene Saturday, trying to find out what caused the fire.
