A boat house and dock went up in flames on a property bordering Prospect Lake in Saanich last night.

The Saanich Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls about a structure fire near Prospect Lake just before 10 p.m. The first crews to arrive immediately accessed the property and put out the blaze.

The initial response comprised 15 firefighters, two engines, one ladder, and one tanker, said Capt. Scott Norris. Saanich Police, B.C. Hydro and B.C. Ambulance Service also attended.

“A boat house was fully engulfed upon arrival, which was in close proximity of the residence,” reported Norris. “The building was successfully evacuated and no injuries were reported.”

The estimated damage to the building and dock is $100,000.

The cause is unknown, said Norris, and is under investigation.
