The intersection of Admirals and Woodway roads in Esquimalt was partially blocked for several hours this morning as police investigated a two-vehicle crash that left an elderly Esquimalt man with serious injuries.
The crash happened around 8 a.m., said Victoria police spokesman Const. Mike Russell. The intersection was closed until 1:30 p.m while an investigation took place.
A 90-year-old Esquimalt man driving a small grey sedan in the northbound lane tried to make a left turn toward CFB Esquimalt on a green light, said Russell.
He might not have noticed the Ford F-350 heading through the intersection. The vehicles crashed with a force that sent pieces of one nearly 10 metres. Both front ends of the vehicles were crushed.
The elderly man was rushed to hospital with “very serious injuries,” Russell said. The other driver, also a man, was shaken but not injured.
