The Esquimalt Graving Dock is receiving another $100 million for upgrading on top of $150 million that has recently been spent on the federal facility.

Federal Public Services Minister Judy Foote made the announcement Monday morning at the graving dock. The latest money will be spent in the next three years on improvements to the 1950s electrical system, rebuilding the south jetty, and refurbishing the pumps that allow water in and out of the dock. The dock is like a giant bathtub — vessels float in and then water is removed so crews can work on the ships.

The new jetty will have double the berthing space. This will be used by shipyards that rent the graving dock for ship repair and construction.
