OTTAWA — The Canadian Armed Forces say one of their ships helped seize more than 600 kilograms of cocaine off El Salvador.

The Forces said HMCS Whitehorse, based out of Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, helped the U.S. Coast Guard intercept a vessel. Fifteen bales of cocaine were found floating in the water nearby.

This is the second big drug bust for HMCS Whitehorse this year.

In early March, the ship helped the U.S. Coast Guard seize more than 5,000 kilograms of cocaine off Costa Rica.

The vessel is part of an international operation to prevent drug trafficking, the Forces said, locating, tracking and approaching suspicious vessels.
