A cyclist was struck in Oak Bay Saturday afternoon and sent to hospital with facial lacerations.

The man in his early 40s was biking northbound on Monterey Avenue, travelling through a green light, when a car travelling southbound turned left and struck the cyclist.

The 90-year-old female driver “simply did not see the cyclist,” said Oak Bay police Sgt. Don Symes.

The car stopped but then left the scene. Witnesses were able to help identify the driver. Charges will be laid, said Symes.

The cyclist, who was wearing a helmet, did not break any bones but suffered a large gash to his chin.
