Victoria police are hoping to find the owner of a black and silver Rocky Mountain bike.
A Victoria police officer saw a cyclist in dark clothing riding the wrong way up Carlisle Avenue in Esquimalt without a helmet or lights early Wednesday.
The officer noticed a severed cable bike lock hanging off the handlebars. She called to the cyclist to stop, but he just pedalled faster.
The officer sent a police dog after the cyclist. When the rider saw the dog, he threw down the bike and yelled: “OK, I give up.”
The officer called the dog off and arrested the cyclist, who had a large pair of bolt cutters.
A 28-year-old man of no fixed address was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
The owner of the bicycle can reclaim it at the police department’s west division station at 500 Park Place in Esquimalt.
