Major crime investigators have taken over the case of two men who disappeared from Ucluelet under suspicious circumstance three weeks ago.

Daniel Archbald, 37, of Squamish and Ryan Daley, 43, were last seen at the Ucluelet Small Craft Harbour after returning from an eight-week sailing trip to Panama.

They docked May 13 and were caught on surveillance camera leaving the harbour on foot three days later, possibly planning to hitch a ride to Daley’s property in Jordan River.

The RCMP said aerial and ground searches have failed to locate the two men. Their disappearance is deemed suspicious and the case has been turned over to the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.

“We ask anyone who has any information as to Daniel and Ryan’s whereabouts or anyone who may have seen them or talked to them between May 13 to 16 to call police immediately,” Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said in a statement.

“We are continuing our investigation into Daniel and Ryan’s disappearance and have no evidence to suggest that this case is linked to any other missing person investigation at this time.”

Archbald and Daley disappeared the same day that Ben Kilmer, a 41-year-old father of two, vanished in the Cowichan Valley.

Kilmer’s work van was found abandoned and running in the Sahtlam area, west of Duncan, triggering a massive search by friends, family and an army of volunteers.

Anyone with information on the disappearance of Archbald and Daley is asked to contact the major crime unit at 250-380-6211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
