Maintenance crews began work Monday to repair the washout that damaged a portion of Highway 4 linking Tofino and Ucluelet to Port Alberni.
Ucluelet Mayor Dianne St. Jacques said the Ministry of Transportation is responsible for the repairs.
The washout, about five kilometres east of the Ucluelet Junction, has allowed only single-lane alternating traffic since Friday.
A washout in roughly the same area caused the highway to be closed in both directions on Dec. 3.
