A texting driver not only drove into the back of a Victoria police car carrying a K9 officer and police dog on Saturday, but continued texting after the accident.

The adult driver ’fessed up in the messages: “I just got into an accident, OMG. I was trying to txt u. Ran into a cop car. OMGGG.” (OMG stands for Oh my God in text-speak)

And the response from an astonished friend: “Actually? !?!”

The crash happened about 7 p.m. at Cook Street and Hillside Avenue, police said.

Const. Matt Rutherford said the officer and police dog were uninjured, but the female driver and a child were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At the scene, the driver admitted texting and was issued a ticket, Victoria police said.

“The continued message is for people to leave their phones alone, and if you feel that you must text, pull over,” Rutherford said.

The driver’s car suffered damage to its front end, and she was issued a $167 ticket for using an electronic device while driving.
