Cougar seems to have vanished after stop at View Royal home

An unusual cougar sighting last week — which had the animal sitting at the door of a View Royal residence — has created little fallout. While there have been some sightings since, none can be verified as connected to the Nov.

An unusual cougar sighting last week — which had the animal sitting at the door of a View Royal residence — has created little fallout.

While there have been some sightings since, none can be verified as connected to the Nov. 13 encounter, said conservation officer Peter Pauwels.

“There hasn’t been anything that I would consider to be a reliable sighting since then,” he said.

Riley Nicholson, whose Atkins Road home backs onto a ravine, looked out her screen door last Thursday and was shocked to see a cougar staring back.

The big cat fled when she slammed the main door.

Pauwels said the cougar might have been interested in Nicholson’s cat, which had been playing outside.

He said cougars are around all year but sightings are more frequent in the summer, when people tend to spend more time outdoors.
