Saanich police responded to a report of a cougar sighting about 8 p.m. Monday in Elk Lake Park, in the area of Oldfield Road and West Saanich Road.
Officers were dispatched to ensure that people in the park were aware of the sighting, and the B.C. Conservation Officer Service was notified. There were no further sightings.
Police said the public should be aware that cougars can be present in local parks.
