Comox Valley RCMP are investigating a rash of commercial break-ins, including two at the same business within a week.

There have been nine break-and-enters since Dec. 19 and one attempted break-and-enter.

The crimes appear to be targeting cash “floats” — money left in the till or a cash box. Some computer equipment has also been taken.

Comox Valley RCMP Const. Rob Gardner said businesses in Black Creek, Royston, Courtenay and Cumberland have been targeted. He said it is not known whether the break-ins are linked.

“It’s very sporadic — the locations, the types of businesses,” he said. “There’s some coffee shops and there’s some mattress stores, there’s all sorts of different things.

Comox Valley RCMP ask the public to report any unusual activity around businesses. Call police at 250-338-1321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
