Comox Valley RCMP confirm victim of crash from Union Bay

Comox Valley RCMP have confirmed the victim of a fatal two-car crash on Wednesday is a 50-year-old Union Bay woman. Investigators believe the woman failed to stop at a stop sign at Headquarters Road and Tsolum Road/Smith Road in Courtenay around 8 a.

Comox Valley RCMP have confirmed the victim of a fatal two-car crash on Wednesday is a 50-year-old Union Bay woman.

Investigators believe the woman failed to stop at a stop sign at Headquarters Road and Tsolum Road/Smith Road in Courtenay around 8 a.m. when her car was struck by a pickup truck towing an equipment trailer, which was heading southbound on Headquarters Road.

The 18-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries, said Comox Valley RCMP spokesman Const. Rob Gardner.

The road was closed for more than five hours while Comox RCMP traffic section investigated the crash. The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating.
