Seventeen-year veteran Chris Aubrey has been named Langford fire chief.

He replaces Bob Beckett, who is retiring after 20 years in the position. Aubrey, who was born and raised on the West Shore, was previously assistant chief of prevention in the department.

He will lead about 60 men and women in Langford Fire Rescue, a composite fire department composed of both paid members and volunteers.

“We have a team of highly skilled individuals who care deeply in what they do,” Aubrey said in a statement.

“I am fortunate to be surrounded by caring and dedicated people who work hard each and every day to help their neighbours in times of need.”

Aubrey will officially assume the position on June 16.
